what is the difference between isolated and non-isolated?

The isolated power supply using a transformer to 220V voltage transformer voltage down to a lower voltage, then rectified into DC output power supply road. Because the primary coil of the transformer to withstand 220V voltage, the secondary coil is exposed only to low AC voltage output, and is not a direct connection between primary and secondary coils, so called isolated power.

The non-isolated power supply with 220V input to the electronic circuits, electronic components step-down output, input and output is connected directly through the electronic components, so called non-isolated power supply.

Non-isolated basic DC / DC step-up (Boost) or buck (Buck) circuit, relative to the circuit is relatively simple, and thus the cost is relatively low.
Current precision: Isolated can be done within ± 5%, rather than isolated, difficult to achieve.

Application areas: LED lighting to the mains input power (in particular the drive and light one lamp), in line with the principle of safety first, the basic no longer use non-isolated solutions. But there are exceptions,
